25 years of stopping Dracula deserves a celebration!
25! 25 years of Castlevania action! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! *lightening crashes*
Okay, so my impression of the Count from Sesame Street is lacking, to say the least. But we’re in a brand new month: October! Now, when I think of October, I think of Halloween: all those costumes and candy and horror movies… and more candy. It’s great!
Ya know what else is great? Castlevania.
Last week on September 26, Castlevania turned 25 years old. YAYS! That is a huge accomplishment, indeed! Like many, I grew up with the series and I still remember wanting to launch my NES controller into the wall trying to beat the first one (damn you, DEATH!). Anyhoo, it really is perfect timing: a game featuring classic horror monsters celebrating a birthday (and a big one at that) close to October. No word from papa developer Konami or Mercury Stream (the Spanish devs who brought us Castlevania: Lords of Shadow) if there’s anything special planned for Castlevania this year, and it would be so sad if they didn’t.
So we’ll have to do the celebrating ourselves.
All this month, the FANDEMONIUM! and Features will revolve around this classic series. And most of the reviews I have planned for the month will be Castlevania games (meaning that I’ll have to break the “Backlogging It” rules… but it’s for a good cause, so it can be overlooked).
In the meantime, I’m curious to know what kind of memories you have of Castlevania. Which ones were your favourites? How ’bout least favourite? What would you guys like to see Konami do to celebrate Castlevania‘s 25th anniversary? Let me know in the Comments Section!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta grab my Vampire Killer and whip something… like that piece of Roast. YUM!
