You Can Play Your PSP Games on Vita… Kinda

PlayStation VitaSo much power in this little thing.

For all you PSP owners out there, you’ll be able to play your games on the Vita… but there’s a catch.

Backwards compatibility is important to some gamers. I admit that I like it a lot: I enjoy going back to my old games every now and again, but don’t always want to dig out my old system. So if the that system’s successor is able to play the games from the previous generation, all the better for me.

Sony released a FAQ (in Japanese) explaining that PSP owners may be able to get digital versions of their UMD games to play on the Vita, but for a price. That’s still up in the air at the moment, but Sony plans on making an announcement concerning this soonish.

Also, the Vita will be able to play most PSP downloadable games. I say “most” because you won’t be able to play PSOne Classics, Neo Geo and other retro downloadable games.

So, Vita’s capable of backwards compatibility… kinda. How many peeps out there think that Sony’s just gonna drop this feature within the first few months? 😛

In all seriousness, that is a nice incentive to those who really like to go back to our fave old games and get the next best thing. But, in all honesty, I think I’ll keep my PSP to play my old games. I don’t want to get rid of it because it’s that Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary PSP I imported from Japan. And I don’t really want to get rid of it anytime soon (read: NEVER). It’s pretty and shiny :3 But I digress…
