Capcom Unleashes Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection

Capcom’s celebrating their marquee franchise in a big way.

Street Fighter II holds a place in my heart as the game that got me into Fighters back in the day. Punching, kicking, throwing fireballs and shouting near-inaudible Japanese phrases that made me wonder what the heck they were saying… ah, good times.

It’s amazing that the Street Fighter series is turning 25 this year! To celebrate, Capcom is unleashing a special Street Fighter 25th Anniversary collection September 18th. And it comes with a crap ton of stuff that will set you back $150:

Street Fighter 25 Anniversary Collection

Look at all the swag!

  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition
  • Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition (with all costume DLC)
  • Street Fighter X Tekken (including all character and Swap Costume DLC)
  • Two-disc Blu-Ray video set including a documentary on the series’ history, the Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV Anime movies, episodes of the Street Fighter animated series, and Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie
  • 8″ light-up Ryu statue doing a Shoryuken
  • 11 discs of soundtrack music
  • 64 page hardback art book
  • Replica of Ryu’s belt (complete with the kanji!). Handy if you need a belt to hold up your pants
  • Certificate of authenticity (as this is a Limited Run)

But wait! Capcom is also holding a special series of tournaments, where contestants will test their might in all the games included in the collection and the winners taking home over $500,000 in prizes:

  • December 8 Finals in San Francisco, CA

What? No Canada? Bah!

The winner of Street Fighter X Tekken is going home with a custom-designed Scion FR-S Sports Coupe. Damn.

While I think this is cool an’ all (and chances are good that I will cave and get this), I must say, I am a lil’ disappointed that the original Street Fighter isn’t included. I mean, how can you release an Anniversary Collection of a series if you don’t include the one that started it all? Without Street Fighter, there would be no Street Fighter II. I know that it wasn’t the best, but it’s still an important part of the series’ history and should’ve been added. In fact, it would’ve been nice to see a Street Fighter HD ReMix. Redo the visuals and music, tighten up the controls. A nice tribute and thank you for the one that started it all.

Still… this is pretty cool. And I’m weak. I might cave. Damn you and your Ryu statue.
