JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle NOT A Fighting Game

So we won’t be beating the snot out of each other in the new JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle.

A few weeks ago, Namco Bandai announced that they’re publishing a new JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure game later this year for PlayStation 3. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle, being done by Asura’s Wrath developer CyberConnect2, will span the entire history of the popular manga series.

CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Maruyama sat down with Famitsu to talk about their newest project (which is already 30 percent completed!). Maruyama and his team are tickled pink about the whole thing, stating that they are, like, the most hype super-fans of the JoJo series ever and that they would do the licence justice.

Maruyama then stated that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle is not a fighting game, “it’s a JoJo game”. The team opted to make the game run at 30 frames per second (as opposed to the 60 frames per second required to make a fighting game run as smoothly as possible), thus allowing them to better create JoJo’s expressions (because we demand to have Dio’s psychotic expression recreated as accurately as possible). Maruyama also said that there will be lots of characters in the game. Way more than what people expect.

So what kind of game would a JoJo game be if not a fighting game? Perhaps an action-adventure game? An RPG? A Visual Novel with fighting scenes? It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with.
