Aksys Games Announces New Hakuoki Game For 3DS

Hakuoki Memories of the Shinsengumi

More hot Hakuoki action… in 3D!

I had a lot of fun playing Idea factory’s fabu visual novel Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom on my PSP (review shall come soon… I’m too choosy about what pics to use!), and I have yet to try the action-y follow-up Warriors of the Shinsengumi (it’s next on the list!) For those who missed out on the adventures of our brave heroine Chizuru Yukimura and the hunky men of the Shinsengumi (mainly ’cause you might not have a PSP), publisher Aksys Games have announced that they’re bringing the samurai action over to the Nintendo 3DS!

Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi tells the same tale as Demon of the Fleeting Blossom; having players take on the role of Chizuru as she travels to Kyoto to locate her missing father. She eventually meets the Shinsengumi, and soon discovers that they, too, are looking for her father. They take Chizuru under their wing and offer to help in her search. Of course, danger awaits at every turn, and as you struggle to find out where your dad is (while trying to survive these uneasy war times in feudal Japan), you’ll eventually find love with one of the available Shinsengumi bachelors. Awww~!

Anyhoo, since it’s on the 3DS, Memories of the Shinsengumi will take advantage of the lil’ device’s unique features. The game will be playable in 3D, and will have… the most dangerous feature of all… a photo booth.

That’s right: you’ll be able to use the 3DS’s camera to take pictures of yourself (or your friends… or both) posing with characters of Hakuoki against a variety of different backgrounds and themes.

I’m totally taking a picture of me and Chikage Kazama. TOTALLY.

Another neat thing Aksys put on the list of features is that there’s some new content in the form of six new side stories that shows what happens between some of the game’s major events. As a fan, that’s a selling point for me, as I like to have some extra story bits to sink my teeth into and be able to, for example, see a particular story element in a different light. Oh, and photo ops with Kazama 🙂

I’m sure they’ll announce more soon (like a release date), so let us all keep our eyes on the Memories of the Shinsengumi website for more details!

Have you guys played any of the previous Hakuoki games? If not, do you think you’ll pick up the 3DS version? Let me know in the Comments Section!
