The one writing month to rule them all is quickly approaching… and I still need to figure out what to write!
We’re now on the second week of October. Already.
Time certainly flies by, doesn’t it? Well, while folks are prepping their gardens for fall, thinking about what to dress up as for Halloween, and stores put out Christmas decorations for no reason whatsoever, I’m thinking about what the hell to write about.
NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is taking place next month. The premise is simple: write 50,000 words (the equivalent of one full novel) by the end of the month.
I say it’s simple, but is it really? Well… maybe if you plan ahead.
I participated in NaNoWriMo in 2011, but for whatever reason decided not to write a novel, but instead used it as a way to encourage me to write more blog posts. I didn’t even bother keeping track of my word count 😛
In 2012, I though I could write a story for a Visual Novel. But since I didn’t really plan it out, I never got anywhere and only wrote 4817 words. Wish I had the text to that still to see what I wrote, but that’s stuck on my dead laptop hard drive.
So how will I approach this year? Well, I went through the Camp NaNoWriMo events in April and July. They’re the same as regular NaNo, except you don’t have to write a novel, and you can set your own word count. Though I only reached half my goal in April, I went over my goal in July (a little over 20,000).
So yea, if I can do the Camp, I could pull of the regular one. I got plenty of time to figure it out… though I should probably finish off the Camp Nano stuff first 😛
How about you guys? When was the last time you got your creative groove on? And are you thinking of doing NaNoWriMo? Have you participated in the past? Let me know in the Comments Section!
