Sayonara, Summer

Using a tablet outdoors

Summer’s done, and now comes the deluge.

Wow… it’s been… three months? God damn…

Well, last time, I said I was going to use the summer months (i.e. the lull season in gaming) to catch up on my backlog. Ah, it was going to be glorious; what with all those games on my list getting crossed off, having reviews at the ready, less guilt for neglecting my gaming duties.

But that didn’t happen.

Instead, I spent the summer doing two very important things:

1 – Finish my Computer Programming Certificate course. Officially signed up in late September last year, but didn’t even start doing anything until January of this year. And my study habits were… less than consistent. Still I managed to get it all done a couple of weeks ago (and four days before my deadline), so that’s one monkey off my back. Now I can concentrate on more fun things.

2 – Search for employment. My gig with my previous taskmasters has been… less than satisfying. I barely get any work from them at all, but that’s how it goes in the vicious feast and famine cycle that is freelancing. So I went about looking for something else to do, ’cause those bills and video game purchases won’t pay themselves.

Had one (again, work at home), but after about a month of training and jumping through qualifications, I only did real work for one week before they let me go. Got paid for my trouble, at least. I think that it happened for a reason, ’cause now I have a great new gig that’s really enjoyable. It’s crazy busy, but I don’t mind.

Back to Basics

Now that those two things are squared away, I can focus more on playing games and blogging (i.e., the two things I really love doing in my spare time). That said, I think I’ll focus more on writing reviews for the time being, which gives me more of a reason to blow through my Stack of Shame a lot quicker. That may be easier said than done, as like many others, I keep buying more games without clearing the previous docket. For example, I bought Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 for PS3 a few weeks ago and started playing it. I’m not that far in (at least, I don’t think so), but I’m enjoying it for what it is.

Oh, and this arrived yesterday:

I seriously need to sit down and play through all my fighting games… and my Persona games, too, for that matter. UGH…

Also, I got Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy: Curtain Call for 3DS. I couldn’t help myself and ordered the Collector’s Edition off the Square Enix store… so something that should’ve cost about $80 CAD was $120 (including tax and duties). Haven’t cracked it open yet, but I certainly hope that it’s as good as the first one.

Now that we’re in the fall, there will be an incoming storm of new games, which means I gotta get rid of my backlog… and fast 😕

Anyhoo, the only time I’ll write about anything outside games in my backlog is if something major happened… and it seems that a lot of crap hit the fan over the last month or so (and I’m still trying to make sense of it!). Oh, and the occasional Feature here and there.

Before I go, I found this site called Bloglovin’, which is a blog aggregation site where you can follow your faves and discover new ones. Since VSOG’s up there unclaimed, I figure I should do so by posting this here link:

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

And with that… I’m out!

Time to play catch up on all things… including you guys! What have you been up to in the summer (gaming or otherwise)? Let me know in the Comments Section!
